Manifest your best life!

I’M BACK after having a very intense emotional experience during our last full moon. Did you feel it too? Apparently there are a lot of funky cosmic shifts going on (but then again, when is that not true?) and although I felt like I should have harnessed some of that energy to generate some fun full moon content, I ended up getting so swept up in the intensity of my feelings that all I could do was just be. But I did a lot of thinking about what it is I’m trying to do on this giant rock in space, and what I want to manifest. And how do you manifest stuff anyway?

Witchy friends, I might be all about good vibes and rainbows, but it would be dishonest not to acknowledge the clouds too. I’m not a perfectly enlightened guru chilling on top of a mountain giving lofty advice to weary travelers. I’m a weary traveler too, searching as much for inner peace and wisdom as anyone else. We are on this path together, so let us discover together. Today I’m suggesting we share a spiritual experiment: let’s try our hands at manifesting the lives we want to create for ourselves.

Sometimes we ache to delve into our inner work but can’t set aside more than a moment. So how can we squeeze in a little magic without any wiggle room? You don’t need any extra time or materials — a bit of creativity is all you need to create a magical meditation space anytime, anywhere!

Develop your intuition with passive divination!

Have you ever heard a snippet of a random conversation from passers-by and caught a few words that seem relevant to your life? Have you ever come across something while lost in thought and said to yourself, that’s a sign? You are onto something when this happens — in fact, you are practicing what I like to call “passive divination.” You are tapping into your intuition using your senses, and the more you stay aware of it, the better you’ll get. So let’s talk about it!

Ok, let’s start at the beginning. What is divination? The Merriam-Webster definition defines it two ways:

  1. “The art or practice that seeks to forsee or foretell future events of discover hidden knowledge usually by the interpretation of omens or by the aid of supernatural powers”
  2. “Unusual insight / intuitive perception”

While the practices we’ll talk about are in the first definition, our purposes are defined by the second. Although many people think divination exclusively refers to telling the future, the type of practical everyday magic we are discussing here is intended to help you reflect on the present. Some of the insights you gain might be relevant to your future, and may help you make informed future decisions, but ultimately our goal here is to gain insight on your current situation. So don’t be afraid of what you might perceive! It is just a reflection of your internal state presented back to you in a symbolic way.

So how does passive divination work? This divination method does not require tarot cards, runes, pendulums, or any other materials besides yourself and your senses. Passive divination is a form of everyday magic that anyone can practice throughout any day. I call it passive because you are not setting aside time for it as a stand-alone ritual; you are just going about your life with a mind open to intuitive moments. It is best done while walking, as this will allow you to be fully immersed in a moving slideshow of experiences. You can start off your walk by asking a question, or by simply leaving your mind open to whatever unfolds before you. Look around you and become aware of what you feel, hear, and see. What symbols do your observations bring to mind, and what do these symbols mean? If possible, write down what you notice as you go. A few things to look out for:

  1. Overheard conversations. The keywords you come across can be especially meaningful here because they lack context, allowing you to create your own. For example, all I heard of a recent passing-by chat was, “The tower!” I had been going through the collapse of a crumbling relationship for quite some time when I heard this, and it immediately brought to mind the Tower tarot card, which represents the destruction of something that never had a strong foundation in the first place. It gave me reassurance that what was ending was meant to end to make way for new beginnings.
  2.  Symbols. What do you see that is a symbol? For example, I was walking around feeling all slouchy and hopeless one day and I all but bumped into a giant statue of the sun — a big goofy brass one with a huge smiling face. It shocked me out of my stupor so I took it as a “sign” that there were still rays of light to be found in my life. Sure enough, my circumstances improved shortly after I saw this and I decided to focus on a more positive approach. If you feel like something is a symbol but don’t know what it stands for, it’s okay to look it up, but remember that the most important meaning is what it means to you. Your first instinct is likely correct — after all, this is about tapping into your intuition!
  3. Nature. Taking a hike or a walk in nature is a great way to open up your mind to new thoughts and associations. For example, I recently took a walk by the ocean and looked up to see a super majestic hawk? Or falcon? Anyway it was a huge awesome bird and it was hovering in the sky beneath the moon. Or at least it appeared to be hovering as it was really flying against the strong wind currents. It seemed to be balancing with grace between the sea and sky despite the chaos in the air. There was a calmness surrounding that sight that I was able to internalize and carry with me through the chaos in my own life. So pay attention to animal behavior, cloud shapes, land formations, plants, etc. and keep your mind open to the first thing that comes to mind from what you see. You might surprise yourself with what you learn!
  4. Random words and numbers. The license plate in front of you, the newspaper you walk over on the ground, a phrase you walk by on a storefront… perhaps you were meant to see these things. Mull them over and see if they answer any questions you’ve been stuck on, or if they offer any insight into your life. You might look at a clock and see the same time frequently, so pay attention to what you are doing at that time — it could be a sign that you are on the right path.
  5. Feelings. Do you ever cycle through emotions while on a walk? The act of walking, moving, stimulating blood flow through your body also helps activate the thoughts in your minds. Pay attention to what comes up — even if your emotions seem random or out of place, they might reflect something you need to give more attention to.

Remember to jot your observations down and reflect back on them to get the most out of this passive divination exercise! You’ll be surprised at how mundane everyday moments are transformed into impactful, insightful realizations about your life. The more you practice this, the more your intuition will grow! Always remember that while cards and crystal balls are lots of fun, all you truly need to live a magical life is an open mind. Listen to yourself and you will be in awe of what you learn.

What the blue moon means, and how it can help you glow too

It’s the last day of March, but what else makes this time special? It’s the night of the second blue moon this year! I keep blurting this out excitedly, and the reaction I get is mostly, “Cool… so what does it mean?”

A “blue moon” isn’t actually a moon that is blue — it is the second full moon in one month. This doesn’t happen very often, hence the saying “once in a blue moon.” We saw the first blue moon this year on January 31st, but that wasn’t all — it was also the night of a supermoon and a lunar eclipse. After tonight, there won’t be another blue moon until Halloween of 2020!

So what is this beautiful blessed blue moon saying to our souls tonight? A full moon is already a time of heightened energy, ready to be channeled into whatever it is we need to bring to fruition. A blue moon is rare, and two in one year is even rarer. So tonight is a super special night that doesn’t come around very often. It’s so lucky and powerful to be in the presence of such a magnificent moment. Look outside if you can – it is bursting with a lustrous astral soup of glowing moonlight for us all to bask in!

So tonight I’m sharing with you some simple actions that will help you channel this energy in a beautiful way. These are mini rituals anyone can do, just about anytime and anywhere, to share in the blue moon magic and let it flow through your life.

1. Crystal charging: If you have a crystal handy – perhaps you are wearing one, holding one, or keeping one in your pocket – hold it in your fingers or in the palm of your hand while the moonlight shines down on you. Visualize the glow of the moonlight becoming brighter and brighter as it flows down into your crystal, and through your crystal into your whole being. Feel a soft, loving, flowing energy wash down your shoulders like a warm, wild, peaceful embrace. This glow that you feel will stay with you always.

2. Listen to the moon: this is a mini meditation that can be done even if you are outside under the moon for even just a minute or two. It can be done while walking if you like, standing, or sitting outside in contemplation. Gaze up at the moon and greet her silently (or not so silently if you would like). I start off by thinking, “Hey mama moon, you look beautiful tonight.” Gently ask for any wisdom she may have to give to you, and let your mind be open and receptive to whatever flows through. You may come across silly thoughts, but do not doubt yourself. Listen intently enough and your focused calm will lead you to lovely revelations. The moon is a sweet silent friend who is always smiling down at us. If you trust your intuition, she can show you a reflection of yourself you never knew you’d see.

A few moon thoughts I have received include:

“Keep doing what you are doing, you are on the right path.”
“Take care of yourself.”
“Listen to yourself and you will be imbued with wild wisdom.”

3. Brew full moon tea: This is perfect if you cannot see the moon where you are, or if you must be inside. Brew a cup of relaxing herbal tea, and throughout the process, picture moonlight streaming through tiny unseen cracks in your building and charging your tea with the glow of peaceful power. Pour, steep, and sip the tea thoughtfully, as if you are drinking in moonlight. You are full of love.

The full moon is always a magical time, and the blue moon is extra special. Take time to celebrate in your own way, no matter how small, to carry this rare and sacred energy with you always.
