Congratulations! Whether you feel like you kicked 2018’s ass or it kicked yours, you made it through this year and it’s on to the next one. There’s one tarot ritual I have made sure to do right around the start of the new year for over a decade now: the yearly tarot spread. My mom taught me to read tarot as I grew up and although she was the one to introduce the concept of a New Year Tarot spread to me, a recent Google search revealed that it is in fact very much A Thing. So I won’t claim this as an original idea or concept at all, but I still feel very inclined to continue to spread the word about this yearly ritual that I have gained a tremendous amount of value from and highly recommend you try (if you haven’t already).

The darkest times are over, really: December 21st brought us the longest night of the year, also known as the winter solstice, and with it, the year’s longest visible full moon. To see the culmination of our darkest nights meet the bright glow of our fully illuminated moon was a powerful reminder that just as the sky can move from shadows into light, so can our consciousness. It is no new school of thought to view the end of the year as a time to shed what is no longer serving us, and direct our focus where it is truly needed. But this isn’t just a time to make a new year’s resolution and call it a day (or night); it is a time to reflect inward on what truly matters to you, and how you can move forward with intent to better align your life with your soul’s purpose. This journal meditation will assist you in processing what you have been through, so you can learn from it and decide where to go from here.

Let go during the full moon’s afterglow

Do any of you feel affected by the full moon? I catch myself feeling my strangest at times when the moon is nearly or actually full. Sometimes my feelings are so intense I just want to sleep them off. The night of and three days before and after the full moon are energetically powerful times, so much so that I hardly want to do anything at all! So I came up with a gentle full moon ritual that even the most weary witch can muster (also useful up to three days after the full moon).
